Taking Advantage of the Summer Energy
Written by Acquire Languages Founder Nickolas Cox
For many, summer signifies the start of an array of new opportunities, with a fresh energy of ambition and excitement. It's true there are an abundance of skills that you could pursue during this warm season, learning a language may not necessarily be the highest on that list. But if I can make a case for it, I'd love to provide some healthy motivation!
Cross-cultural connection might be the biggest and most alluring aspect of language learning, as it provides you the foundation to profoundly experience and understand the elements that make up the cultures of the world. The practical applications of this can include being able to order food abroad in a foreign language, sharing stories with natives about old heritage and customs, or even tapping into the ancestral energy that connects people across the world. This summer could be the start of a journey to challenge yourself and grow in this exciting new area. Keep reading for testimonies from real students about their experiences and how you can work towards Acquiring a Language with us today!
New Providers to Join Acquire Languages
Since the start of the summer we have acquired two new members to our team of Language Teachers. Check out both of these talented women below and read about
their respective languages they will be teaching for us:
Mackenzie is a Digital Nomad from Mexico City, Mexico who has taught Spanish for more than 2 years. She comes from a long background in education and tutoring. She is a bilingual speaker of English and Spanish, having lived in both Mexico and the U.S and learned both languages from birth. We are ecstatic to bring her on to our team as a Spanish Provider
She studied Cultural Anthropology at Duke University, graduating in May 2020 and firmly believes in the power of language to share culture. She has employed herself at different upcoming startups that are quickly growing in the online sector.
Her outlook on language acquisition is as follows:
“I think that learning a language is one of the key ways of accessing a culture for without it, you cannot fully immerse yourself in a place or experience. She loves to travel and hopes that your studies in Spanish will lead you to experience the wonders of the Hispanic world for yourself. ”
Mackenzie - Native Spanish Language Teacher
Bruna is an Italian and German teacher originating from Italy, where she resided until age 24. Over the years her personal and professional goal has been to promote a deeper interest in foreign languages and cultures, allowing motivated and diverse people to overcome the barriers of different cultural misunderstandings and more familiar with intercultural competences.
She has studied European Modern Languages at the University of Palermo progressing professionally to teach both Italian and German as second languages. She won an academic scholarship that let her teach as an Italian assistant in a German high school for one year. After this experience she decided to remain in Germany, continuing to work as an Italian and German as a Second Language in the public school for the next fifteen years
Her outlook on language acquisition is as follows:
"She will not only teach the target language, but also introduce students to traditions and cultures related to native speakers of these languages."

Never Say Never to a New Language
Written by Italian Teacher Bruna Cottitto
Life can sometimes be very unpredictable. Learning a new language is certainly challenging but always turns into a very good investment. The hard work you put into it is always worth it, whatever you decide to do later. My advice is in fact, if you are attracted by a specific language, and you don’t know why, just learn it. Invest in it and remember to be always open to something new.
When I was a young student, I decided to become a German teacher. Spanish and English were too easy for me. In addition, I did not have any specific interest in these languages. My real purpose in that moment was to really live and work in Germany. This plan seemed to work well. I finished college and won an academic scholarship that allowed me to stay where I wanted to be for an entire year and even more. After that, something really magic happened. I was hired in a school to teach Italian, my mother tongue. Imagine! That was a proof that when I was at college, I had the right intuition and was not wrong with the fact that my field of studies must be German. There was no need any more to worry and go back to Italy and eventually teach as all my other friends in a normal Italian high school. There was no need any more to deepen into other languages! Suddenly I was in the place I wanted to be forever. It went fast. But also, many other things changed and my initial plan was proven wrong. I had to go back learning Spanish, because I married a Mexican and Spanish became a language spoken at home by my children.
My initial plan was proven wrong once again after 15 years, until life needed me back to the English language. In my college time I had studied English as a minor subject. And this knowledge turned out to be very useful, since now I had to relocate to the States with my family. I started learning English again and it was worth it for my further professional development in the USA, where if you know both German and Spanish you really have a superpower! My advice to all learners is therefore to never say never to the learning of new different languages, being always open to new cultural explorations, even the weirdest ones!
You can never know where life brings you!
Acquire Culture: Ukraine Episode
This month for our episode, we’re taking you through the mystical lands of Ukraine (Україна). We collaborated with Kristina Kovyneva, a Ukrainian native from Makariv to bring you this one, hope you enjoy! ☀️
Ukraine boasts a wide diversity of scenery and experiences, being one of the largest countries in Europe. From it’s green, lush landscapes with small rural villages, to large metropolitan and cultural hubs like in Kiev, it can easily offer something valuable in every department. Many famous dishes have come out of this region such as borsch, pampushki, and salo. With a reputation for gorgeous and lovely women, it’s no wonder it has always attracted tourists from all over the world. Don’t forget
about Ukrainian men who are some of the bravest and toughest amongst the world, putting their county above themselves!
Ukraine has been at the forefront of global media for over a year now due to the illegal war ongoing there. In March 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine in the eastern provinces and began inter-regionally and indiscriminately bombing hospitals, schools, and housing for native Ukrainians. Millions of people have been displaced since that time, with tens of thousands of soldiers losing their lives standing up to the Russian invasion. Fortunately, Ukrainian forces have held their ground and amassed the support of nearly the rest of the world. As it fights for its freedom, peace, and honor, we shall acknowledge their battle and stand clearly in support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people! 🇺🇦
A Recent Language Learning Testimony
Written by Spanish Student Tiff M.
This past week I took my first online language class with Acquire Languages. After some initial reluctancy, I registered for a Spanish session with Mackenzie Zepeda, one of the Spanish Providers. Here are my honest take aways after the experience:
Acquire Languages is the most engaging and productive platform to use to learn a new language on your own time. Being someone who typically has a hard time with online learning, the one to one instructor to student ratio made it very effortless. Unlike Duolingo and other platforms, an instructor is actually present the entire time and you are able to ask as many questions as needed along the way. The lessons can be modified in order to cater to your current skill set in order to create the classes best suited for you. You will be immersed the whole hour while taking a class and come out with many new skills acquired. Overall, Acquire Languages offers a smooth and engaging journey to learning a new language and I plan on signing up for more classes soon! A big thank you to Mackenzie for making the first session so interesting and hooking me in!
Creating a Vision to Progress Forward in your Language
Language Learning can be a daunting goal, with hundreds of tongues around the world, thousands of regional dialects, and innumerable methods of communication. What's important is to have a vision, or image of where you want to be, given a set time period to get there. Do you want to speak French to your friends native to Paris? Or maybe, you'd like to be able to converse with locals in the Japanese street markets. Whatever the goal, it's going to take work to get there and we'd like to be the resource to help you bridge the gap. Summer is here, so don't let it go by without first taking a class with us! ☀️
